So before I got out and paint the moss solution on things around the city, I decided to make some ROUGH sketches of silhouettes of things I may want to paint (since I wont be able to get any more detailed than that probably), and a collection of quotes. I've found that I don't keep a journal in the usual sense of that word, but I do keep a collection of certain quotes/lyrics that are insightful, inspiring, or meaningful to me in some way. I've collected some of these to maybe use or use snippets of to spread around. Whatever I choose to use, I'll include in following posts of the process and discussion of WHY those things (symbolism, meaning, etc.) Most of them should be pretty self-explanatory. :)
AH!! I love these quotes! :D Especially the Henry Thoreau one...it's not what you look at but what you see. Beautiful. I think you want to figure out what you want to say to the people in a certain area. You know?
ReplyDeleteOne Nietzsche quote is pretty cool that says, "Those who were seen dancing were thought insane by those who did not see the music." When I think of moss art, I think of asking how it got there, and maybe other people who will see it ask that too. So, maybe speak to the fact that this is art, and there's a motive behind it. :D Give them an answer to the why, maybe. :D
I think public art at its best is art that makes people stop and go, "huh" for a second. And, I know you think that too! That's why personal quotes can be powerful IF they are also on a level that can be publicly applicable. You go! This is gonna be awesome.
I'm interested in seeing more symbols too.
Your quote is your personal creative touch to the surfaces you alter with your moss. Keep it going!
ReplyDeleteThese are all good, and I think that any of them would go with your theme. Are you doing a quote and a drawing or just a quote? You have pictures here of both.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the feedback, guys!
ReplyDeleteTaylor, yes! I am definitely thinking about what quotes to put where. :) And I've heard that Nietzche quote before! I've probably posted it on my facebook at some point. :P
Thank you, Maggie! I've done a few already around where I live and today after my last written final I'm gonna go to different places around town. :)
I am putting quotes some places, and just a silhouette drawing other places - depending on where I am/how much room I have to work with/how much moss solution I have left. I've already done 2 different quotes (will have pictures later today!)
